Baking Soda and Vinegar Hair Trick

This is one of my best hair tricks!

I truly love the effects that both baking soda and vinegar have on my hair. Here is a great article on baking soda and its many uses.

I honestly don’t remember how I concocted this method of washing my hair, but it is truly my favorite way to clean, liven, and soften my locks.

Read on for the details!

Box of baking soda next to a bottle of apple cider vinegar on a counter.

Part 1: Baking soda

I do the entire procedure while in the shower, which is where I also wash my hair.

The first step is to add your normal shampoo into your palm, as you usually do.

Then, you want to add about a tablespoon of baking soda to the shampoo, and proceed to rub your hands together to begin mixing them.

I then add the mixture to my hair and wash as usual.

Make sure to wash your scalp and ends really well! The baking soda will act as little ‘scrubbers’, cleaning both very well.

Rinse thoroughly.

Part 2: Apple cider vinegar

Before beginning your shower, you will want to prepare the vinegar solution.

For hair, I like to buy a cheap jug of apple cider vinegar from Target. The high quality Bragg’s ACV is not necessary!

To prepare the vinegar solution, add about 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar to a large plastic cup or container of some kind. You will be taking this into the shower, so I would use something that won’t break easily.

To that, add 2-3 cups of water. Use three cups if you have long hair.

In the shower, after rinsing the shampoo/baking soda mixture, pour the vinegar solution over your head and hair. I like to first dip my ends into the cup to soak them, then I pour the remaining over my scalp.

Part 3: Condition

Immediately after using the vinegar solution, add your favorite conditioner to your hair.

This will not only help soften the hair, but also remove the vinegar smell!

Rinse and dry, as you usually would.

You should now have the cleanest and softest hair ever! Enjoy!
